  • How to remove or bypass Factory Reset Protection FRP on a Tecno phone...for Noobs All

When you do a factory reset on Tecno phones running on newer Android versions, you might be prompted to enter the credentials of the Google Account previously linked to the device. This is called Factory Reset Protection or FRP for short. From our experience with several methods of bypassing FRP, this guide will focus on a Noob friendly approach

    Who is this tutorial for?
    • For the Noob / Newbie who has limited experience and really wants something simple and easy to follow
    • For those who don't want to lose any data in the process of bypassing FRP
    What do I need?
    • Windows PC & USB Cord
    • Download SP Flash Tool
    • Scatter file for your phone model (I'll explain how to obtain this later in the guide
    • The Tecno phone with FRP issues
    • Notepad++
    Summary of this method

You will be wiping ONLY the FRP partition using SP Flash tool. You will neither wipe any other partition nor flash anything to the device. You will first obtain a compatible scatter file, get the FRP partition's address (it might vary from device to device so don't copy another device's address) then wipe it using SP Flash tool

    Now, lets start...

This tutorial is specially for the noob so I won't be making too many assumptions.. Meaning we'll start from the very beginning.

    Step 1: Install drivers

SP Flash tool requires drivers on your PC to communicate with your device so download and install Mediatek USB VCOM drivers

Step 2: Obtain a scatter file

A scatter file isn't the same thing as firmware or stock rom. Its just a text file of a few kilobytes contained in stock rom. Lucky for you, there's no need to download an entire firmware of Gigabytes just to get a file of a few Kilobytes thanks to Hovatek's Component Files Project . You can download single files like scatter file, preloader, boot.img, recovery.img etc saving your time and data in the process.

Head over to our Tecno stock roms section , locate your phone model then download only scatter file for your Build Number (you can find your Build Number under Settings > About). If the scatter file for your Build Number isn't listed then create one by dumping your firmware using Wwr tool or Miracle Box

Step 3: Enumerate your FRP address

Open the scatter file using Notepad++ and search for frp. It will look something like this

    Code:
    - partition_index: SYS5
      partition_name: frp
      file_name: NONE
      is_download: false
      type: NORMAL_ROM
      linear_start_addr: 0x*********
      physical_start_addr: 0x******
      partition_size: 0x********
      region: EMMC_USER
      storage: HW_STORAGE_EMMC
      boundary_check: true
      is_reserved: false
      operation_type: INVISIBLE
      is_upgradable: false
      empty_boot_needed: false
      reserve: 0x00

Take note of the values in front of physical_start_addr (Begin address) and partition_size (Format Length)

Step 4: Wipe the FRP Partition
    • Launch SP Flash tool
    • Load the scatter file
    • Click the Format tab
    • Tick Manual Format Flash
    • Input your start address and length
    • Click Start
    • Power off the device then connect the phone to the PC
    • You should get a green OK once that's complete.
    • Power up the device

This write up is based on Team Hovatek's guide on how to Format a Single Partition of a Mediatek (MTK) device using SP Flash Tool

Don't mix it up. The guide is only confirming that its referring to Build Number which is located under Settings > About > Build Number but since your phone is stuck at FRP, you obviously cannot access it that way. There are several methods to obtain Build Number when your device is bricked
